Thanksgiving Hat
When looking for holiday patterns I came across this beauty. There just aren’t words…

Softest Natural Fibre in the World

This is a Musk Ox, an arctic buffalo-like animal. Its wool is in high demand by people all over the world because of its lightness and extreme insulation power (8x warmer than sheep wool) as well as its cloudlike softness. Being so light, this fibre called ‘qiviut‘ has a very elegant drape. For the luxurious experience of creating with an exceedingly rare fiber it will cost you $90 for a 28g ball - deeming it the most expensive yarn in the world!
1st October, Knit Wits meeting
Join us for the next Knit Wits meeting on 1st October 2009. We will meet at 7:30pm at Merricks flat (Urquhart Road) for a fun time of fibre arts, fellowship and snacks. If you have never knitted or crocheted before, come anyway as we have lots of yarn, hooks and patterns to go around!
Ireland Neck Warmer
I dont know if this is actually a pattern from Ireland, but that’s what it says. The alternative to a scarf.
My first attempt at the cable crochet made with a burnt orange baby llama yarn.

Thursday 20th August
Our next meeting will be 7:30pm, the 20th of August at the Merricks Flat on Urquhart Rd (unless Melissa is put on bed rest in which case we might go to her). This will be an exciting meeting that will have a quick hands-on demonstration of hand felting merino wool. I have also inherited more yarn and my ‘craft corner’ is overflowing with mostly acrylic double knit – it is all up for grabs.
I would also like to give a big WELL DONE to Melissa for creating this cozy pattern in her head and learning trim, tab and button skills while helping her husbands coffee stay warm. Nice work!

Thursday 30th July
Meeting at Merrick’s flat at 7:30pm. Bring your current project to work on and enjoy some coversation and munchies!
Fun Fur
Not to sound like a yarn snob, but I am not a fan of Fun Fur. You know that silly, brightly coloured, yarn that is terrible to work with and never turns out right? I thought it might be okay for use on children’s items, but after seeing this photo, I have changed my mind.

Fun Fur = Muppet Murder
Just say no.
Stitching Terms
Some new lingo for you as your yarn adventures continue…
WIP – Work In Progress, a projet you are activly working on and making progress.
UFO – Unfinished Object, that thing you started and then just abandoned is is lurking under the bed or in a closet somewhere.
LYS – Local Yarn Store, the place where more money that what was in the budget is spent on beautiful yarn of all sorts.
FROGGING – to come to the devistating realisation that you have made a mistake and thus need to rip out a portion of your project. Ther terms comes from ‘rip-it’ which is the sounds a frog makes.
Thursday 16th July
Join us this coming Thursday at 7:30pm at the Merrick’s flat to work on any ongoing fibre arts project (and have a chat while munching on some goodies). All skill levels and projects are welcome! Hope to see you then.
